Fabric Backed Plate

These plates are super easy to make and sooo cute!  I will be making some for the neighbors and delivering them with Christmas cookies on top! 

 

What you need:

Clear plates (ikea has them for .99)
fabric squares
Mod Podge

spread the mod podge on back of plate.  Lay down one piece of fabric, cover with Mod podge and repeat with rest of fabric.  When done, let dry and then flip the plate over and cut the edges of fabric off from around the plate.

Hand-wash only!!!!

Here is what you need:

material and any type of string, rope or other base to tie

the material strips on

You can make the length and width any size you want.
For this one I cut strips that were 1" x 8"

Next time I might go a bit smaller in the length...maybe 6"

It will make the tying part more difficult but I think the

shorter length would look better.

I chose to tear my material for a fun, frayed look.

You can also cut it for a cleaner look.

But...let me tell you, the tearing part was like free

stress therapy!! It felt sooo good ripping them up!

The pile...I ended up having to tear more to cover

the length of the string

This next step is simple...

Tie a small knot in the end of your string to keep the pieces

on and then tie each piece of material on.

After I finished tying on all the material pieces,

I took it outside and shook it really hard to fluff

it up and get rid of any lose strands

I am really happy with how it turned out and

that it was so easy to do.

I have seen this type of garland on mantels, over doors,

as table runners and in other parts of the house.

I also think it would look cute as a wreath and instead

of using rope or string, tie the material strips on

a metal hanger shaped into a circle.

You can add other types of items in the garland...

large wooded beads, ribbon, candy canes...

lots of possibilities!!

Duct Tape & Staples

No Sew Tote Bags!!

Who knew that you could make something so cute with duct tape and staples?!?!

I found the idea on Martha Stewart's website (love her!)

This is what the inside of the bag looks like...

A few things I did different...I did not line the back of the fabric with iron on vinyl. However, when I do this again...I will use it on any bags I make using regular fabric...to give it more of a laminated feel inside. It will also make it easier to staple and fold the material. The upholstery weight fabric is thick enough and I don't think the vinyl is needed. I also only created a gusset (triangular bottom) on one of the bags. I like it with and without. I only bought enough webbing for one bag. On the other two, I used grosgrain ribbon for the handles.
Not my first choice but that is all I had and these were just my practice ones.

New Addiction

a link for a fabric bracelet tutorial. I purchased the pdf file
and tried it out. I think I found my new addiction!
